G’DAY QUOBBA

Mate, Strewth and Good on ya!

Our journey north continues, after a pleasant but warm night in Carnarvon, where we made good use of the pool, freezer and camp kitchen.  We trundled on up the road, before turning off to head into the Quobba blowholes, a place we hadn’t visited since before it got popular on YouTube, and I mean literally couple of decades ago!

The great thing about heading north, when everyone is heading south, is that you have places like the Point Quobba Blowholes all to yourself, without all the masses squealing everytime it goes off…… instead we can do the squealing for ourselves.

The ground is kinda “tortured rock” to walk on, but donning our 4wd thongs, we made it the 30m to the spot where we had noticed the spray coming up….. and waited….and waited, then whilst fiddling with the camera with my back turned it went off scaring the bejeebus out of me (see above re squealing) and making Jo laugh ….. a lot ( OK so maybe just giggle a bit).

But we did  get some good shots and a little video of Jo enjoying getting sprayed while watching it go off.

It’s not just the blowholes that you get to see here, but as the waves crash onto the rock shelves, you get all these waterfalls as the water retreats…… very scenic and worth another pic.

Our goal for today was Coral Bay, and again the good thing about cyclone season is that the town is fairly well empty, there is us and a bunch of French, German and other nationalities, who are all doing a pretty good job of impersonating lobsters on the beach.

The caravan park has only about twenty sites occupied out of almost 200.

Like we mentioned, it’s cyclone season, so everyday we check to see what’s forming, currently there is one heading due west out to see and a low that may possibly form into one over the next few days, we will keep our eyes and ears open….but for now I can feel a Guiness coming on.

PS here’s some pictures
