This weekend was a quick trip down to Bunbury to catch up with parental units, having been working on repairing the fridge mounting jayco build issue it was also a good opportunity to try it out and see if I had caused any unforeseen issues. (Watch the video if you like …. or not)
So slid it all back in place Friday morning, turned it on to get cold before stocking it up with the essentials, pepperoni cheese, meat and alcohol before bundling Jo into the car after work and trundling off to spend the night in Pinjarra. The free RV spot near the train line, always a good thing in our books.
We were surprised as there would have been about 15 setups already there if not more! We squeezed in under a large Marri tree set up in about 5 minutes before sitting back with the back doors open enjoying the breeze and entertainment wine in hand. We had had chicken treat the day before and during the movie that night reheated the left-over chips in the frypan and had a hot chip buttie. Afterwards we settled down and slept like the proverbial only being woken once by a train going through in the wee small hours of the morning, where we smiled and rolled over back to sleep
Next morning, we awoke to the sounds of scratching on the roof. A cadoodling noise erupted in the still air giving away just who was using our roof as a perch.
After toast we packed up and wandered slowly southwards not allowed to be at Helens until 1130 ( lest we interrupt the social schedule) so spent some time wandering around Harvey. Great IGA there and came out with chippies and chocolates.
Down into Bunbury and a wander around the shopping centre at Eaton. Left us a bit early but at the mother in laws by 1045.. Perhaps a little bit early, but after a coffee and a chat and being loaded up with jars of relish we dawdled off for a lunch by the estuary….. smoked chilli oysters, cheese, pepperoni, crackers, relish, a real decadent munch with a great view. This turned out to be the theme of the weekend.
On into Bunbury proper found the town centre a hive of activity the events including the left overs of a St Patrick’s day festival and some car and enthusiast rally. Which we probably got glared at, this modern RV camper van interrupting the parade of holdens, fords, classic Americans and hot rods in the main street.
So, a quick turn right and parked, walked back and wandered up and down the streets watching and admiring the work that had gone into some of these machines. Turns out it was the “bumpers and beats” event that we had not heard nor seen mention off on the way in.
So then where to stay tonight, the back beach has a 48 hour RV self contained free stop, across from a nice ocean beach but also on the side of a dual carriage way and in all honesty I didn’t find it an appealing option. Nor the prospect of just up the road at rocky point, the cricket match meant lots of people and again Saturday who knows what was going to be going on when the car event Finishing around 9pm. So, we decided to head out to Capel, where the RV stay might be less crowded and definitely quieter.
Certainly was, with only half a dozen vans and one roof top tenter. Pulling up under a shady tree we sat outside Jo doing some drawing me reading and spilling my beer, (no… not on purpose) Good job I was outside the van at the time. The ants running around in the leaves in the beer might have enjoyed it too… Is this where the expression pissants comes from? A quick tea of a sort of chorizo paella (think spicy sausage stir fried rice with lots of veggies in) and settled down to watch another movie before bed.
Next morning up early and after two coffees wandered in to find the local markets, quite disappointing only 4 stalls at the most so decided to head on back to Bunbury, parked up right on the beach overlooking the water, opened the sliding door and started cooking breakfast, I wondered if it was the van itself or the smell of the eggy bread toasty with cheese and bacon wafting from the open door that attracted people’s attention but most people turned to look as they walked past..
Great breakfast and a great view, it’s the simple things that really make this campervan life fun. Even enjoyed a hot shower, in the carpark (yes inside the van with the doors closed) not something you would normally do in a very public car park. Good job our little bus is capable to be very private as well.
