Well, Broome had been good to us, we ended up spending an entire week instead of just 3 days. But I have to say, well done to the Spinifex Brewery for a nice cold beer and supporting veterans at the same time…. a must visit if you’re coming up here.
On our supposed last day, we cruised on right up to the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, we were thinking of staying there overnight at one of the campgrounds, but all access roads were either closed or not suitable for Little Bus. So we turned around and drove all the way back.
The caravan park was happy to see us back again. We really liked the Broome Caravan Park and would happily stay again, but it might be different when it’s full! The best part was having a frilled neck lizard come visit.. and he didn’t mind having his photo taken at all

So then, after a week of swimming, lazing around, drinking coconut iced coffee, it was back on our itinerary and off to Derby. It’s been almost 20 years, and it’s grown a little bit. It has some new pubs and a woollies now.
The tide was out, so big big mud flats, so that night we spent shut up in the aircon, avoiding the midges

Now, a day or two later, we have figured that we are all alone. We have not seen any other traveller, no caravans, no backpacker’s tic tac campervans, no other tourist of any sort. Maybe it’s the road being closed at Port Hedland, or is it just that it’s the wet season and no other bugger wants to be up here. Either way, it’s just us and the highway.
Spent a warm night last night at Ellendale Lagoon, all alone except for a brolga, a kite, some rainbow eaters, yellow honeyeaters, and the numerous assortment of usual everyday birdlife…. oh, and some cows, very inquisitive about us.
As the evening drew to a close, a thunderstorm rolled in and treated us to a refreshing shower and a spectacular light show for most of the night.

Well, it was a warm night, and now it’s back on the road,
We’ll catch you again soon
